Can a mobile robotic platform identify objects and their location using a digital video camera, macro-controller, and the Java programming language? We will use the engineering and design process to model and then produce a working system that will identify objects by determining their shape based upon a variety of digitally recorded views. We will then write a java program to extrapolate distance and orientation based upon the imagery and transport the mobile platform to the object and then manipulate the object so it can be used to perform a desired task. The Java program will require the use of a variety of sensors to accomplish this task. The mobile robotic platform will be designed and built around the vision detection system.
